Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Abby Bangser is the director of major giving programs at LACMA, which means she works with the museum's upper-level donor committees to set the strategy for how they will operate at the museum and connects special access and events related to her supporters' interests. She joined LACMA over two years ago after a similar job in NYC with the Guggenheim. It's not surprising that her favorite shop is inside the LACMA confines—spend five minutes with Abby and she'll be raving about Dagny, the museum bookshop's main woman.
"No surprise, I most often find myself on LACMA's campus and often in need of the right gift or a few moments of inspiration. Luckily Dagny Corcoran's Art Catalogues provides a very different take on a museum bookshop and, if all goes especially well when there, then I run into Dagny, who has an endless supply of wit, humor and interesting art world stories. Tucked just inside the entry of LACMA's Ahmanson building, Dagny's independently-run bookshop provides a curated inventory of rare artist books and exhibition catalogues, along with other ephemera. Often the catalogue displays respond to LACMA's exhibitions and with materials I wouldn't have immediately considered. Although, the real reason for my visits is time with Dagny."
