Last month's Los Angeles Philharmonic production of Mozart's 225-year-old opera Don Giovanni was a true meeting of the minds. The Frank Gehry-designed set coupled with Rodarte's intricate costumes made for a striking display of eye candy, which prompted the LA Times to deem the event an "extraordinary achievement."
To complement sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy's Swarovski-studded creations, the design duo turned to makeup artist James Kaliardos of NARS Cosmetics to transform the faces of the opera's eight main characters and twenty-four choir members.
The lilac-coiffed Donna Zerlina's super smoky lids were produced with NARS' Lili Marlene cream eyeshadow, Lhasa eyeshadow and Nuits Blanche eyeliner stylo. For Donna Elvira's dramatic eyes, Kaliardos combined the Zardoz and Pandora Duo eyeshadows, the Nuits Blanche eyeliner stylo and—a salute to LA—the Santa Monica Blvd. Larger Than Life long-wear eyeliner.
