Where This Photographer Finds Vintage Rock and Roll Tees

Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Randall Slavin was born in Hollywood and was, per his words, "working a dead end job in a gas station" when he wandered into the photography studio across the street and struck up a friendship with the shop owner. He took the young Mr. Slavin under his wing, taught him some photography basics and then fired him a few months later. Faced with nowhere else to turn he put one foot in front of the other, kept going and has never looked back. Since then, Slavin's shot for publications like The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Esquire, Rolling Stone and many others. He filled us in on his favorite LA shop, the rock and roll-themed Kelly Cole Extraordinarium.

"Wandering into Kelly Cole Extraordinarium feels to me like stepping through a time machine to CBGB in 1977. I just love the true rock 'n roll vibe of the store in addition to the incredible collection of vintage t-shirts. Sometimes I go in just to look at the new treasures he has uncovered, as to me, it feels like a museum of forgotten rock and roll history. "Where did you find this?!?!" is something that I seem to say every five minutes and yet he never tells me his secrets. I mean, how do you find a 1960s Duke Ellington tee? I cherish my 1973 Paul McCartney T-shirt as if it were my firstborn son. Kelly Cole Extraordinarium feeds an addiction to rock and roll, denim and that certain California cool that I can't seem to shake."
