Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Starting today, fans of Persephenie's botanic fragrances and organic skincare products no longer have to call ahead of time to visit their by-appointment-only studio. They've just transformed their South Edinburgh space into an Old World-inspired public boutique that offers an eclectic mix of vintage jewelry, imported Japanese incense and handcrafted beauty products. For true aromaholics, the beloved perfumery and apothecary also tells us that they have "raw resins of Frankincense and Labdanum, as well as vintage Patchouli, Edwardian rose and Tuberose" in the house, too. Visit Persephenie Wednesday through Saturday, 12 to 6pm.
