Donna Karan's almost always associated her brand with her home city of New York, but for the first standalone store for her more casual PureDKNY, the designer looked to Los Angeles. The store is now open at the Westfield Century City, a location that Karan leased for one year as a test.
According to WWD, Karan's president of retail, Carol Sharpe, looked at some of our city's retail stretches before deciding on the mall based on its upscale mix of retail tenants. She said they picked LA for the inaugural PureDKNY boutique because "it is a lifestyle-driven city where work attire isn’t as formal as New York and PureDKNY could potentially build a large clientele for weekday as well as weekend dressing."
