Aside from good looks and show business success, what do Ashton Kutcher, Daniel Craig, Tom Cruise, Jason Statham and Leonardo DiCaprio have in common? They've all practiced Krav Maga, the official self defense system of the Israeli army. Details spoke with Krav Maga instructors like Darren Levine of Krav Maga Worldwide who said that Hollywood studios come to them to get actors into fighting shape for action movies. Regarding Leo, Levine said: "he was out of shape when he first came to us, and he left rock-solid." Ashton practices regularly so he can "save the people [he] care[s] about" should anything befall them.
The industry's interest in Krav Maga has led to the opening of quite a few Krav Maga studios in the LA area; Details has a short list of options, from hard-core to novice-level. Says another instructor, "Most people are never going to have to use the fighting skills, but they're going to come out of a workout feeling empowered."
