Ernesto Martinez, the head costume designer for new HBO show Veep, considered and rejected quite a few Washington, D.C. politicos before settling on Michelle Obama as the style template for lead character Selina Meyer (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Hillary Rodham Clinton? Nope, no pantsuits. Nancy Pelosi? "Too old." And according to Ernesto, "Julia actually said in the beginning that she didn't want to look like Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann." [NYT]
