Stylists Dru Wright and Pony Lee move fast. The duo, who together have more than 20 years of experience styling hair in Los Angeles (including stints in Hollywood), decided to open their new salon Folklore over lunch in early October of last year. They got their LLC a few weeks later and the keys to the space, at 1102 Mohawk, on January 3rd.

After a few frantic weeks of demo and construction—"there were a lot of late nights and Tecate" says Dru—they soft-opened in February. The result of their hard work is a sophisticated space with a throwback feel. Most of the furnishings are antiques, thrifted from the Rose Bowl Flea, found on Craigslist or donated by friends. If you're in need of a new look, short cuts at Folklore start at $50 and long at $65 while color goes from $85 for a dye job and $120 and up for highlights.
