Where Jerome C. Rousseau Finds Records In Highland Park

Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Celebrities like Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Stewart and Katie Holmes are all fans of Jerome C. Rousseau's sexy shoes. Rousseau launched the line in 2008 after being inspired by the style of Lady Miss Kier, front woman of 90's pop-fun band Deee-Lite. To date, he's been featured in the pages of Vogue, Elle, and Harper's Bazaar, but what really gets him going are afternoons spent inside Wombleton Records, where he gets lost for hours in stacks of vintage vinyl.

"For me, music is as much a passion as shoes. Buying records is a bit of an obsession. My boyfriend gets fairly annoyed if I stumble on a bunch of records on a day out together, probably because I get lost in the stacks for hours. Wombleton Records has quickly become my favorite destination for record shopping in California. The owners travel the world to find rare gems and I'm always surprised to find obscure 45's by Elli et Jacno, Lio—things I cannot even find online despite how hard I try. It's a great place to spend an afternoon: choose a few records (you can even listen to them on the store's speakers) and flick through books in their brilliant library. While on the East side, stop by Elf Cafe in Echo Park for delicious vegetarian dishes. I'll be there admiring my new vinyl."
