We didn't know what to expect when we agreed to tour Wildfox's new studio in Echo Park. Although there was a big chance that it would turn out to be a standard workspace filled with coffee-guzzling employees and too-busy-to-chat designers, we secretly really wanted it to reflect the enchantment of the LA knitwear brand's imaginative lookbooks. Lucky for us, the office was everything we hoped for and was filled with colorful, cute, whimsical, and retro-inspired details. There's even a perfect fluffy pomeranian frolicking about.
The designers, Emily Faulstich and Kimberley Gordon, were more than willing to show us around, too, and even sat down for a little Q&A where we learned that they're big fans of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, love a style throwback, and know a thing or two about local vintage shopping.
If Wildfox had an anthem, what song would it be?
Emily: Justin Beiber: The Box Set.
Kim: "White Houses" by Vanessa Carlton.
What fashion era are you currently inspired by?
Emily: It's always changing for me, but at the moment I’m inspired by the simple fashion of the late '40s and early '50s. I like to do the '50s housewife thing: bake cakes, wear vintage aprons, and sport curlers in my hair.
Kim: Mostly the '90s because I really connect to it. I grew up adoring my sister because she was the ultimate '90s girl and I wanted to be just like her. I was obsessed with Britney Spears, the Spice Girls and Liv Tyler.
If you could dress the entire cast of any movie, which one would it be?
Emily: Scarface or anything with Miley Cyrus.
Kim: Pride and Prejudice.
Celebrities love Wildfox. Who else would you love to see wearing your designs?
Emily: Emma Watson is my favorite person. She's an extremely underrated actress and is so stunning!
Kim: Jessica Chastain is a true beauty with great versatility and a seemingly beautiful heart.
Name a few reasons why you love living in LA:
Emily: La Poubelle, Mohawk General Store, the Griffith Observatory at night, and garage sales.
Kim: I love that you can go barefoot outside in winter and that you can drive from the beach to the city at any time. I also love the Silver Lake Hills because they remind me of a fairy land.
What do you like most about your new Echo Park studio?
Emily: The glossy white floors!
Kim: Being with my favorite people in the world every day.
Do you have any tried-and-true beauty secrets?
Emily: I swear by Dermalogica face masks, Pellegrino mineral water, and coconut oil.
Kim: Don't over-pluck your eyebrows!
