Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

In the spring of 2005, Desiree Kohan launched DES KOHAN, a destination boutique in Los Angeles that stocks designers like Azzedine Alaïa, Hussein Chalayan, Viktor & Rolf and Mark Fast. Usually, you can walk in to find Desiree mingling with her customers, drinking tea and talking about her favorite topic: fashion. When she's not minding her shop, Kohan adores stopping in to The Melrose Project in West Hollywood.
"I love when people ask me about destination stores because DES KOHAN is definitely one and we love supporting others. The Melrose Project is a thoughtfully curated and inspirational space that changes monthly. I love to see it transformed with each new installation. When I am getting ready for my Paris buying trips, I always need to mix a bit of vintage into my wardrobe. They have a rotating collection and I was lucky enough to grab some incredible accessories sourced from European flea markets and antique dealers. This is my secret spot that only the most in-the-know interior designers are clued in to. I love the art scene in LA and The Melrose Project consistently works with the most influential galleries in LA. They currently are exhibiting my favorite David Hockney lithographs. It's a perfect place to wander and be inspired or search for the perfect vintage leather writing desk...my next obsession."
