Old Navy is feeling a bit nostalgic this year. To launch its fall jean campaign, the retailer enlisted the cast of the original 90210 to star in ads and then built a massive pop-up shop on Beverly Boulevard to distribute the denim to Angelenos. For the holiday season, the brand's got something even bigger planned: snow, a weather event that reportedly hasn't happened in our neck of the woods for more than 50 years.
Old Navy will be installing a snow machine at the Hollywood & Highland Center Courtyard and will be pumping out the white stuff in anticipation of a public event this weekend. Passersby will be able to sled down "Mount Old Navy" from 10am to 5pm on Saturday; Old Navy staffers will be handing out free fleece scarves at 3pm. Then, from 5 to 7pm, there will be a film screening complete with complementary (branded) goodies: Starbucks coffee and buttered popcorn.
In a perfect compliment to the brand's holiday commercials starring an aged Chevy Chase, the movie chosen is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Now if Clark Griswold shows up we'll be really impressed.
