Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Hayley Starr does it all. Literally. She has designed multiple clothing collections, collaborated with unique artists, owned an installation space called The Divine Quest of Hayley Starr and Company in West Hollywood, sold her infinite collection on both QVC and The Today Show and written and illustrated children's books. Starr currently lives in Venice where she recently opened the doors to her new studio and store, The Quest by Hayley Starr, a space filled with light, color, art, clothes and jewels. Here, she tells us about Kelly Cole, her very favorite place to shop on La Brea.

"Kelly and I go back...and I mean like, he was with me the day in NYC when I found my beloved Shih Tzu nearly 16 years ago, so I can say, without hesitation, that Kelly has always had silly dope trendsetting taste. His new retail store is a perfect reflection of his personal aesthetic: vintage (the real deal kind), masculine (in that perfect shaggy/musky/put-together-but-not-metro way) and authentic (my very favorite trait). The space is small but every inch of it is perfection. All the fixtures are custom-made using mostly reclaimed materials. His background is in denim, so when he made his own line, it was with full of knowledge of that very specific culture combined with his distinct voice. The vintage tee collection is bananas, only the best, and in incredible condition. Being a girly girl, my favorites include Minnie and Mickey, horses, bunnies and, of course, the Pink Floyd prisms tees (I love anything with a rainbow)."
