Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Gwyneth Paltrow is one of those lucky types who's tri-coastal. The actress and Goop founder has residences in London, NYC and in LA. Her vested interested in all three cities and her self-proclaimed talent at "find[ing] cool stuff" have led Paltrow to create city guides, available via a Goop app ($3.99 in the iTunes store), for each locale—with more promised for other cities.
Gwyneth just added LA to the rotation so Racked ponied up and bought the app to find out what Apple's mom likes to do when out and about in our city. For clothes shopping, Gwyneth recommends American Rag, Beckley, Dream Collective, Feal Mor, Jill Roberts, Lake, Maxfield, Milk, Noodle Stories, Opening Ceremony, Resurrection, Ron Herman, Satine, TenOverSix, Tavin, THVM and Weltenbuerger.
In need of a hair or skin fix? Gwyn advises hitting up celeb coiffeur Chris McMillan for a cut, star colorist Tracey Cunningham at new salon Méche for color, skin clinic The Face Place for some tough love and Sonya Dakar for a peel or a facial.
Perhaps more interesting, though, than where she shops or gets her hair done are her go-tos for mundane things. For shoe repair, for instance, Mrs. Paltrow entrusts her footwear to Arturo's Shoe Fixx in Beverly Hills. She likes Black Banditz in WeHo for tattoos (their ink is "pretty rad"). And there's even a recommendation for a coin laundry—Launderland at 7757 Santa Monica Boulevard. Sorry: We buy Gwyneth going to DTLA for THVM, even to Echo Park for Tavin, but just can't picture her at a coin laundry.
