SoulCycle competitor and fellow NYC-based spin studio Flywheel has decided to expand to LA. The fitness chain was started by former SoulCycle co-founder Ruth Zukerman, whose split from the other Soulies sounds pretty acrimonious. From the NY Daily News:
In 2006, she co-founded SoulCycle with Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler. But within 15 months, Zukerman and her co-founders were feuding and nasty letters from lawyers were flying. Cutler and Rice bought Zukerman's stake...Zukerman said she is legally restricted from speaking about her former partners, who also declined to comment.Flywheel offers spinning and FlyBarre, a barre-type class with "light weight training, dance, and core strengthening exercises." Larchmont Buzz has confirmed that the very first LA studio is going in to the former Blockbuster space at 147 N Larchmont Boulevard. SoulCycle just opened its second LA location in Brentwood—who's betting that Flywheel will turn its attention westward next?
