The doors for the Hello Kitty for Forever 21 launch party at the Americana at Brand opened at 7 pm last night, but a crowd began to form hours before outside the store. By the time the DJ started to spin, Hello Kitty faithfuls were eagerly waiting in a line that wrapped all the way around the building.
Pop art jewelry designer and reality TV star Onch!, who created seven accessories for the Hello Kitty Forever Collaboration, was on site to meet fans and pose for pictures. "The goal of this collection was to make it classic, so if you wear it in 2050, it will still be hip," the animated designer explained. "Being a huge fan of Hello Kitty?I went wild with what I could do!" He also pointed out that each piece has a double-twist pretzel as a charm, an Onch! signature.
The shoulder-to-shoulder crowd moved quickly to shop the collection, which includes everything from sweaters and pajamas to umbrellas, pillowcases, and bags. Guests could also indulge in Hello Kitty manicures, take shots in a photo booth and enter to win a Hello Kitty Forever gift bag. Although there were plenty of distractions to keep people busy, the highlight of the night was Hello Kitty herself making her second Forever 21 LA appearance. She even had us star struck.
