Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Launched in December of 2008, the independent design show UNIQUE LA was created Sonja Rasula as a way to bring local-made design and art to the masses while helping to grow and support the economy and small businesses. Here, she fills us in on her favorite spot in Silver Lake for all her cycling needs.
"This bicycle shop is awesome. I bought my vintage Schwinn from Coco's Variety Store when they first opened years ago—back then it was half bicycle shop and half variety store, hence the name. Over the last few years I've watched them grow into a full-service bike shop with a great selection of brands and products. You'll find brand-new bikes from the LA-brand Linus (for sale and for rent, which comes in handy when friends and family visit town) and also find a huge variety of vintage bikes, some that have been fixed and prepped for riding, some ready for you to strip and do the work. Seriously, this is the place to go if you're looking for a cool vintage bicycle. The guys that work there are great and I'd also stand by Coco's Variety Store for repairs, tune-ups, etc. Quite simply this place has a great selection and they are passionate about bikes. And if, like me, you embrace the hipster inside you that loves the unique, slightly imperfect/faded look of vintage bicycles, you will love this place!"
