Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Johnny Pinto is better known as The Denim Guy, the writer behind a blog that provides insight and knowledge into the vast and often overwhelming world of denim. A fashion marketing graduate of NYC's LIM College, Pinto worked for Project Global Tradeshow right out of college (the staff of whom our sister site captured last week) and now holds the role of marketing director at Doctrine Jeans. He lives in Long Beach, and when he feels the need to refresh his wardrobe, he heads to newly-opened shop Port.
"Living in Long Beach is great. I love this city. It has great places to eat, coffee shops, tattoo parlors, BARS, great nightlife and more. Did I mention BARS? But, what WAS missing was a great place for people to shop. Yes, we have our 2nd Street in Belmont Shore but who wants to look like they are straight off the set of Jersey Shore? Well, all that changed when Port opened. Located near Long Beach's bustling 4th area tucked away and hidden off St. Louis Avenue, Port houses a range of established and emerging lifestyle brands including Freshjive, Publish, Warriors of Radness, Insight, The Quiet Life, Chambers, Brixton, Herschel, and Matix and stocks footwear labels like Pointer, Thorocraft, Clae, Diamond, and DVS. It also caters to female shoppers with a range of vintage items. In addition to all that, they carry their own private label collection of tees, tanks and other limited-edition pieces like sunglasses, hats and whiskey flasks."
