Filth Mart Owner Maggie Fox Digs the Childsplay at Tomboy

Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

While Racked LA favorite Filth Mart may have a very adult sensibility, co-owner Maggie Fox says one of her favorite shops in and around the Los Angeles area is Tomboy, a kiddie shop located in Silverlake. Besides indie kids clothes the store stocks a few can't-live-without adult treasures. And their itty-bitty baby booties kind of make Maggie insane (in the good way).

At Tomboy in Silverlake, I found a really cute storybook with blank pages for the recipient to create their own illustrations. She may even have some random vintage turquoise cuffs in stock that you only realize then and there that you absolutely need it. She definitely offers luxury goods for babies and infants, but she offers a good range of products in different price points. The SHOES! MOCCASINS! SLIPPERS - her very small but ridiculously cute selection makes me crazy. And Cleo, the owner creates a really easygoing vibe?making shopping a pleasure.

Tomboy is open Monday through Saturday, 10:30am to 6pm, and Sunday 11am to 5pm. They're located 2945 Rowena.
