Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.
Cameron Silver may have started his career in cabaret, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had one hell of a profound impact on the Los Angeles vintage scene?and beyond. His hand-picked vintage finds and hard-to-come-by designer archived items stock his boutiques, and have made his shops (Decades and Decades Two.1) worldwide coveted emporiums. But when he’s looking for a little bit of Central American inspiration (or a standout leather pouf), Silver ventures to DOSA 818 where he always finds the best gifts for the lucky recipient.
Christina Kim's boutique DOSA 818 in downtown's fashion district is an insider's shopping emporium for both DOSA's clothing and home collections. Located in the famous Wurlitzer Building, this is my go-to place for beautiful artisanal house-warming and host/hostess gifts such as one-of-a-kind multi-pieced cashmere throws and leather poufs. I often hang out and enjoy a cup of tea while perusing unique finds from Asia, Africa, and Central America. The women's ready to wear is also quite exquisite and perfect for my jet-setting friends with a conscience.
Dosa 818 is located at 818 S. Broadway, 12th Floor, LA. 213-489-2801. They're open Wednesday through Friday, 11am to 5pm or by appointment.
