Through the month of July, Les Pommettes (you may remember them as Vionnet) is overflowing with all manner of bling, baubles and bangles. They're hosting a jewelry and accessories trunk show (with the main emphasis on jewelry). SO MUCH SPARKLE. While there's no shortage of dainty, understated pieces, most of what you'll find are big, statement making pieces. Lots of large stones, unusual finishes, chunky charms and intriguing mixed media pieces. It's seriously hard to choose a favorite -- mainly because there is so much to look through, hundreds and hundreds of pieces, but we were loving the slightly futuristic, sometimes sinister vibe of Mawi. Many of the pieces look as if they were constructed from bullet casings; one of the rings was a big stone that looked like it was being gripped in the talon of a mechanical dragon. Fierce! Rodrigo Otazu was another favorite, with big, dazzling, candy-colored rocks.
The array of purses isn't quite as breathtaking, but there are some goodies in stock. If you're not already, it's time to get acquainted with Deux Lux, a vegan brand that makes enormously cute bags in a range of styles, taking cues from Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, and Stella McCartney. The bags are generously sized and loaded with nice details and good hardware, but honestly, when you get up close and start pawing it, you're not going to mistake it for leather. But at those modest prices, we could totally live with that.
If you're a jewelry and accessories person, it's definitely worth a trip to check out. They're showcasing brands you probably already know, like Tom Tom, Vera Wang, Low Luv, Dara Ellinger and Wendy Mink, and a few dozen that you don't, but should! Les Pommettes is open Monday through Saturday, 11a to 7pm, and Sunday, noon to 6pm.
