Best and Worst Sunscreens

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

All of us Angelenos know the hard way (or can see examples of the hard way) that the constant sun is an amazing lifestyle choice, but that a good sunscreen is all that separates us from our best-worn leather jacket or worse. For those of us who also care about the impact of that sunscreen on us and the world around us: we've eagerly waited for the EWG's sunscreen ranking for 2011. There are some surprising good guys (Walgreens) and some surprising bad guys (Aveeno!), and about 1698 others in between. (Lizz Wasserman) [EWG]
