We took a little mid-week jaunt to the Ace in Palm Springs, and on our way out of town we spotted the new outpost of downtown LA's simple shop Secret Service....we felt so...well, not like we were in the Secret Service. A little like the hungover CIA.
The Palm Springs boutique is pretty perfect and site specific: it's located in an old, formerly abandoned gas station. Most stores probably dream about a gas station location: and this one is done right with simple, vintage furnishings and the desert as a backdrop.
Th desert store carries some of the old faithfuls from the Los Angeles location including Nice Collective, Obedient Sons, Surface to Air, B Son, The Cast, Esquivel Shoes and Crate Denim: just sunnily and airily merchandised in a desolate yet lovely setting instead of an urban/industrial LA.
Most of the year there's probably some question about foot traffic and shoppers in Palm Springs, but come Coachella and then summer not long after, it will be one of the busiest places in town...and we want in on the party we can already imagine in the giant lot surrounding the space.
