Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
New Year's Eve is less than 72 hours away, which means that it's officially time to lock down your party plans. To avoid a serious case of FOMO when you find out that everyone is hanging out without you, we've rounded up four must-stop NYE events where all the cool kids are guaranteed to convene.
There's more: instead of providing you with conventional outfit options for the night, we've put together literal looks to match each party's proposed dress code so that you can really get into the spirit. From a menswear-inspired suit at a black tie affair to neoprene at a poolside performance, click through the slideshow for what to wear and read on for where to wear it.
What: Eveleigh's Roaring '20s Soiree
Where: Starting at 9:30pm, enjoy bites, bubbly, and live jazz from The Uptown Five at Eveleigh, 8752 W. Sunset Blvd (424-239-1630). Book the night's prix fixe dinner here or buy tickets for the cocktail-only portion (which includes a Kanon Organic Vodka-sponsored bar from 10-11pm) here.
Wear: "Roaring '20s cocktail attire is highly suggested," according to the event's press team, which gives us a chance to channel that flapper we never got around to being for Halloween. Don a drop-waist dress with a fluttery hemline, a feather fascinator and lots of bead-happy accessories to complete the look.
What: Harvard & Stone's Rocker Chic Rager
Where: Starting at 8pm, see a live burlesque show, sip open bar drinks, and experience the legendary H&S band with guest crooner Jesse Hughes at Harvard & Stone, 5221 Hollywood Blvd (323-466-6063). Buy tickets here.
Wear: The venue's GM, Steven Sué, requests "rocker chic attire at this good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll party," so the look we're going for includes tons of leather, studs and overall badass-ness.
What: Hyde Sunset's Black Tie Affair
Where: Starting at 9pm, dance, dine on shared plates, and enjoy signature libations at Hyde Sunset, 8029 Sunset Boulevard (424-239-1630). Get tickets here.
Wear: The venue's director of promotions, Remy Moses, notes that "elegant attire is strongly encouraged," which means that most dudes will likely be wearing suits. Instead of sporting a boring cocktail dress, opt for sleek black pants, a top-buttoned blouse and a bejeweled necktie to give the boys some competition.
What: The Standard, Hollywood's Poolside Performance
Where: Starting at 8pm, hit the musically-inclined Kanon Vodka, KCRW & The Satellite bash at The Standard, Hollywood, 8300 Sunset Blvd (323-650-9090). Get tickets here.
Wear: Since the festivities will be taking place by the pool, we're obviously going to rock waterproof things like neoprene and PVC—plus fancy flats in blinding colors so we can get our dance on.
