Ooga Booga Might be Caveman-Speak for "Gives Good Gift"

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Ooga Booga is one of those stores that makes you happy to live in LA. It's the best museum shop you've never been in, a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, and a seriously inspirational collection of goodies which are all located in one tiny shop on the second floor of a small shopping center in Chinatown. This holiday season, stop by to pick up the most specifically unique pieces for the most specifically unique and creative friends in your life. Our favorites are anything by Mended Veil (their punny and funny jewelry brings a healthy dose of humor to gifting), Alexandra Bircken's beautiful blondie scarf and, for the hardcore punk fan in your life, the Touch and Go complete collection of 22 issues of the beloved fanzine.

This Thursday from 7 to 9pm, you can check out these great items as well as a pre-holiday reception for the release of ten new artist-made silk scarves organized by Pentti Monkkonen. And while you're, we recommend picking up Michael Bell-Smith's tongue-in-cheek video of an upside-down yule log, which is sure to be a conversation piece at whatever family gathering you are headed to.
