Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.
Erin McKenna is the founder of BabyCakes, an all-natural and completely delicious vegan bakery on East 6th Street? (between S. Main Street and S. Los Angeles Street). She's been widely recognized for her vintage getups, has been featured inside the pages of Lucky Magazine and on The Martha Stewart Show, and now, after a little bit of wrangling, she's finally clued us into her favorite West Hollywood spot for vintage kicks.
"My favorite shop in LA is Re-Mix Shoes on Beverly Boulevard. They have the best collection of vintage never-been-worn shoes as well as classic vintage reproductions that are built to be extremely comfortable. I discovered Re-Mix Shoes when I was waitressing at a restaurant called Cobra and Matadors in 2001.
I've been an avid thrift store shopper since the 6th grade and my major issue has always been finding cute vintage shoes that didn't smell or weren't totally thrashed. The collection at Re-Mix Shoes is the best. I never have to get grossed out by putting on someone else's stinky shoes. Lord knows what foot problems the former owner had! I used to save my waitressing money to dart over to Re-Mix Shoes before work and I would always end up with new favorites that I would wear to death."· Babycakes Bakery [Official Site]
