Hello Kitty is on a roll. Over the past year the brand has partnered with everyone from Tokidoki to Yogurtland to Vans to Sephora. Last night was the debut of its clothing collection with fast-fashion chain Forever 21, an event that was packed to the walls with young fans. "Celebrity models" Kendall and Kylie Jenner were also in attendance, though it was impossible to get anywhere near them thanks to a storm of security and cameras. But that didn't seem to matter to most shoppers, who breezed right past the girls to scoop up tops, sweaters and totes emblazoned with the iconic cat.
In fact, the biggest cheer of the night was for Hello Kitty, who lumbered on stage, waved, turned around, and then was helped off. The Kitty suit must be uncomfortable, not that she was anything less than overwhelmingly cheerful the whole time. Above, a video of the madness.
As for the clothes, people seemed most enamored with the tan bow-neck printed blouse—after the doors opened, we only saw one left on the racks. Printed sweaters and sweatshirts were also popular, as were the Hello Kitty cupcakes stacked in the center of the store and the full-on nail station near the front doors. In addition to the baked goods, there was Hello Kitty water, piles of Pocky boxes and marshmallow Hello Kitties on sticks. You know, the perfect rations for a Forever 21 binge.
