You'd have to be living under a rock in a cave with no wifi connection to be unaware of the Versace for H&M launch tomorrow morning. And if you like bright colors, body-hugging shapes and lots of leather, chances are you'll be lining up for it. Only 300 stores will carry the clothes worldwide, and here in LA shopping is limited to the Beverly Center, the Westfield Century City and the West Hollywood store (if you don't mind driving they'll also be carrying it at the Americana at Brand in Glendale). Since stock will be limited and demand will undoubtedly be high, we'd advise showing up with a clear plan of attack.
At the Beverly Center: Your primary target, H&M, and the traditional queue-up spot, outside the Quiznos. We were told that wristbands would be given out here at 8am.
First: Review the offerings and come up with a shopping shortlist. H&M has created an easy-to-use microsite where you can download a lookbook featuring the entire collection, with price points.
The location of the H&M at the Westfield Century City. We were advised that customers are lining up behind the store and that wristbands will be given out at 7am.
Second: Decide how hard you want to commit. This is not for the faint of heart. According to a salesperson at the West Hollywood location, people have already begun to queue up and will be camped out there overnight. If you really, really need the studded leather dress or the cropped floral print jacket (two items that will definitely be in demand), your best bet is to line up asap.
Third: Know the rules. To try to curb reselling, H&M often institutes buying caps on their designer collaborations, and the Versace release is no different. Official word from H&M pr is that the first 280 customers in line will be given color-coded bracelets that will allow them to shop in batches of 20 once the store opens at 8am. Each group gets 15 minutes. That's for womenswear, though—you won't need a bracelet to shop the men's stuff. To discourage eBay reselling, you are only allow to purchase two of any piece.
Fourth: Enlist a friend. These events get chaotic quickly, and two pairs of eyes are much better than one. If you weren't one of the first 280, check the racks quickly then head to the back near the fitting rooms to see what's discarded.
