Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Platform may well be the store Highland Parkers have been getting in their cars and driving to Silverlake to find. Close to Cafe de Leche, Matters of Space and The York, the newish shop helps make York feel a bit like a creative corridor (old-school Highland Parker-ers don't fret: Platform is next to the still amazing Highland Billards).
Founded by cute couple Sarah Brady and Alex Cole, the store is a collection of their favorite things from local artists and designers, souvenirs from their travels abroad and a smattering of their own creations (like simple, perfect leather wallets)—resulting in a truly unique assortment of home goods, clothes, jewelry and accessories. Brady is Pecler's Paris trend consultant and west coast partner, so peeking into her back room of trend resources to peruse her collection of goodies is a special treat. Platform also uses its front space as a gallery to showcase artists (and most recently, causes) they support.
The real reason to stop in: The shop is a gift bonanza. Some of our favorite items include ceramic tableware by Roger Lee and Heath, little ceramic origami birds, wool wallets from Stark and vintage textiles and jewelry.
