Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The third and final markdown has arrived at Fred Segal; but before you salivate, be prepared to go armed with a bundle of cash, as most vendors require that you spend more to save more. Buying 5 or more items earns you 75% off, 3 or more gets you 66% off, while 1 or 2 keeps you at the original 50% off discount.
We checked out The Parliament first, as they had the best offerings when the sale started, and, to our delight, found that there's still some loot leftover. There's a bounty of Helmut Lang jackets and denim, Graham Spencer sweaters, and A.L.C statement pieces; though most of these are high-ticket items to begin with (like the orange leather A.L.C. shorts for $620 before markdown), so it may be hard to hit that 5 item mark before your credit card overheats. Some T by Alexander Wang remains, but most of the basics have been wiped out.
Down the hall, Madison shoes was still packed, and with good reason. Costume National red patent heeled sandals for about $350 ? need we say more?
Across the street at Trend, the same tiered discount rule was in effect, but the selection felt slimmer. A few worthy Vanessa Bruno and Hanii Y picks lingered on the racks, along with a couple of choice Repetto flats and those IRO sandals we loved on Day 1, but again the basics (especially denim) had been decimated.
The sale runs through Sunday, so if you've been holding out for those few items that will spice up your wardrobe, now's the time to strike.
