Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's a gold rush of a different color: designers went crazy for metallic fabric finishes for spring, from subtle pastels to shocking silver and copper. Sparkling outfits are now day-appropriate, so a gold dress is acceptable to wear to the office, provided it's not too slinky. Don't be afraid to pair a metallic dress with metallic shoes, either—matchy-matchy monochrome looks are in for spring as well. Of course, neutral accessories (black, tan) always look good for those who don't want to go overboard. We suggest toning it down on the jewelry for these looks, and don't let the bling of your baubles compete with the bold body sparkle. We're also thinking about getting our metallic urges out in a more wallet-friendly fast-fashion way...who knows how long this trend will last? And then we'll have wasted a whole paycheck on a Sexy Tin Man Halloween costume.
