Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Space 15 Twenty has been doing their monthly flea market for nearly a year, and every month brings a completely different mix of vendors. Each time we've gone, we discovered new labels and new trinkets to lust over, so we stopped by on Sunday to see if we could find anything obsession-worthy. The clothing vendors were almost exclusively vintage, but a few offered the random new piece, as well. As cute as much of the clothing was, it was actually something else entirely that we flipped out about: A couple of West Side gals came up with the idea of clipping fine, colorful feathers into your hair, a la the standard hair extension. Megan and Sara call it chicken head, and it almost seems like the best idea ever. The feathers are subtle, but very striking. It's a low-commitment process: the feathers are clipped into your hair with a little tiny bead -- no glue, no mess, and if you want to bail the feathers you just crack the bead and they come right out. They're supposed to last a few months; we've only had ours for a day, and we already can't wait to get more. If you'd like more information or you want to set up an appointment to get your feather on, contact Megan at meganpaq@gmail.com. Highly recommended.
