We normally don't expect people to spend their Friday nights shopping, but when a store on Abbot Kinney is offering free alcohol and discounts, we're not surprised to find the place packed. Last week, A. Kinney Court kicked off the first of its two-Friday-sale event and we were on hand to see if it was worthwhile. Though the LnA tees and tanks were 25% off regular price, the real draw here is the accessories, especially the vintage Oliver Peoples eyewear. (In-LA-everybody-knows-everybody-stereotype-alert: A. Kinney Court owner Garrett Leight is the son of Oliver Peoples founder Larry Leight and cousin of LnA co-founder April Leight. Which is why he has such an amazing selection of eyewear at such great prices.)
It's impossible to miss all the incredible sunglasses and optical frames that dominate the store. We found the vintage frames right in the front (on the left wall) and spent some time lusting over a pair of old-school round metal Paul Smith frames before trying on almost every pair of sunglasses ($100 to $120) until we hit the table full of ophthalmic frames in the back. Behind that, the back wall featured 25% off lightweight sneakers from Gourmet and trendy leather boots from Becca Moon (a Venice native), and we stopped to decide whether we liked the speckled gray heeled boot or the flat brown ankle bootie best (it ended in a draw).
The sale is happening again this Friday from 6pm to 10pm, so kick off your Labor Day weekend with some new glasses and shoes for fall. But don't stay out too late; the outlet malls open at 10am!
