FreeCity Trades Spaces, Boosts Highland Ave. Renaissance

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We've been hearing stories and seeing signs that the great city of LA is trying to class up Highland Avenue, south of Hollywood Blvd. A James Perse store is opening this summer, and quite a few high profile restaurants have also set up shop on the Ave. Next up: FreeCity. The spendy casual brand is leaving their Malibu digs and moving into a space that's just five blocks from their workshop. The 3,000 square foot FreeCitySupershop Supermat will carry clothing, music, books, and assorted other handmade ephemera.
