LA's well-heeled with a taste for daring, luxury footwear came out to Mona Moore in Venice on Thursday night for a special appearance by Rodarte designers, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Even in a store showcasing art shoes from Pierre Hardy, Marni, Balenciaga, Dries van Noten and Lanvin, the Rodarte shoes (collaborations with Nicholas Kirkwood and Repetto) stood out. The Repetto pieces are girlish -- sugar and spice and everything nice, while the new pieces seem to have been inspired as much by HR Giger, the Swiss artist and designer who created the creature in the movie Alien, than by Christian Louboutin. (It's a well-known fact that the girls are horror movie fans).

The Rodarte designers were mingling with the crowd, and couldn't be any more adorable, or passionate about their line. Unfort., they were minded by a PR guy who was totally passionate about NOT letting us get a photo of them. They've clearly "arrived", so we're at least grateful to have had the opportunity for a little up-close-and-personal. We were also grateful for the fun and the free sushi truck. Thanks, Mona Moore!
