Intimacy Bra Shop Lives Up to Its Name

Learning that you've been wearing the wrong bra size your entire life is maybe not as shocking as learning that you were adopted, but it's a pretty significant paradigm-buster. This was something we discovered at the new high-end lingerie shop Intimacy. The shop, already a stalwart in the South, just opened two LA-area locations: they opened at South Coast Plaza on Wednesday and debuted a store at Westfield Century City on Thursday.

Overseeing the launch was Intimacy found Susan Nethero—aka the Bra Whisperer. We toured the South Coast Plaza location, and met with Susan while she was on the premises to find out why what she does is so special (Oprah is a fan). She may be known as the Bra Whisperer, but you could also call her the Bra Dominatrix.

She takes total control, whipping you in and out dozens of styles and shapes, and tells you what you're going to like, what's going to work on your body. And she was absolutely right. It helps that she's sweet as pie; if you're used to a demure sales clerk who gingerly measures you over your clothing with a tape, you're going to be surprised and maybe a little unnerved. They're very hands-on at Intimacy. They take size seriously: they stock 90 different sizes and reportedly have about 15,000 different bras on hand.

And about those bras: there's almost every style imaginable. Sporty bras, t-shirt bras, fancy lingerie bras, fashion bras; from a host of different lines including Aubade, Chantelle, and Simone Perele. They also stock panties, thongs, boyshorts; loungewear, sleepwear and shapewear (Spanx, natch). The selection isn't cheap: you're not going to find Victoria's Secret $20 specials here (our favorite was a black lacy number from Aubade that clocked in at $198), but then again, a bra from Intimacy just might be the next best thing to cosmetic surgery AND a chiropractor.
