Shopping is probably on the agenda for a lot of you during this long holiday weekend. Earlier in the week, we drove up to the Camarillo Outlets to scope on what kind of bargains you might find. We hit the bigger stores and a few boutiquey ones; these are some of the highlights. Your results may vary.
NEIMAN MARCUS LAST CALL—We went on the first day of the 40% off all purchases sale. Madness. Over the weekend, the discount is 30%, but that's still a nice chunk of change. The department where you're really going to score is shoes. Pink satin tulip Loubs for $150. Prada clogs for $200. Miu Miu strappy suede platforms for $195. A favorite tipster hit the Last Call in Orange and had similar stories—she made off with the gorge Rene Caovilla shoes for less than $200. In both locations, the clothes were pretty picked over. There was a smattering of older Phillip Lim. (We found a backless, fringed dress for $15—and passed it up.)
BETSEY JOHNSON—Fairly big selection of dresses for $50 that are also buy two, get one free. These aren't really the most awesome dresses, but talk about a deal. Also, an assortment of Betseyville shoes for $60.
AMERICAN APPAREL—Accessories and guys' outerwear is an additional 70% off. Which means one of us went home with a sweet-ass red satin roller disco jacket for $6.50. Also this weekend at all three AA outlets: all tees and tanks for $10, and shorts are 40% off the lowest ticketed price. Considering their shaky financial picture, now might be the time to stock up, since who knows what's in the cards for AA in July, know what we're saying?
BARNEYS NEW YORK OUTLET—They're in the midst of a big sale, so there are some fantastic deals. Alexander Wang blazers for $209 and that sweepy, one shoulder, vaguely Grecian dress for $199. Lots of Theory and Marc Jacobs for sub-$100. Iffy on the shoes. Lots of BNY-label sandals for @$200, and some Pradas with disturbingly high chunky heels (we think they're Fall2009) for $350.
OFF FIFTH—They're offering an additional 20% to 40% off most of the store. While it was a lot cleaner and less jumbled than the other big outlets, merchandise was a lot more expensive here. For example, we found a pair of fitted viscose pants from Rag & Bone at the Barneys outlet for $125; Off Fifth had the same pants for $169. Neiman Marcus had the far better collection of shoes, but Off Fifth had a much better selection of purses. Gucci, Foley & Corinna, Kooba, Treesje, to name a few.
COACH—Even at 2:30 pm on a sleepy weekday, there was too much bedlam inside for our taste. Guess what it will be like at noon on Saturday? Only for the diehards.
