When we saw IKO IKO's invite to a party that listed nail art as one of the marquee attractions, we were thinking of more traditional nail art, like little rhinestones, flowers, and all the usual generic girly conceits. Don't know why we would have expected anything pedestrian from the eclectic Echo Park boutique: what we got was a delightful little hand-painted ladybug, applied by an actual artist. With some of the steadiest hands we've ever seen, Sebastian Boher painted trees, flowers, rainbows, and other fanciful little pictures. It was a nice excuse to drop by IKO IKO, which is the kind of boutique that looks totally reinvented and fresh, almost from month to month. We discovered treasures like the little cupcake sponge in the photo gallery, a preserves-of-the-month-club membership, Beatrice Valenzuela's handmade shoes, and the Rowena Sartin line, which manages to be both handsome and playful at the same time. It's a win-win: just like the little party itself.
