Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The Barneys NY creative director is among those who've signed on for an art installation/promotion at the uber-mall-in-the-making, Santa Monica Place. He'll customize a mannequin for the aptly titled Mannequin Collective, which will feature —wait for it—mannequins that have been customized, accessorized, and generally made into high art by about 100 designers, artists, retailers and community leaders. Most of them are local; but really, are you gonna turn down Simon Doonan if he wants to make a mannequin? Once all the mannequins are in place, there's going to be a mannequin showdown: the top five will be selected via jury, and then put on display at Otis College of Art and Design. One winner will be honored by Santa Monica Place donating $10,000, in his or her name, for Otis scholarships. Awww!
