Gone in (Miss) Sixty Seconds: Melrose Retailer Shutters Without a Peep

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We read that Miss Sixty was expected to close its doors on May 3; we cruised by on May 1 (yes, we went back to the Creatures of Comfort sample sale), and everything looked status quo. Then we were in the neighborhood again this weekend, and the store is clearly done, like it quietly slunk off in the middle of the night. No blowout sales, no goodbye, no nothing. The stretch of Melrose between Fairfax and La Cienega is unfortunately looking like a ghost town: a block near Melrose Place has four consecutive shuttered stores. We just breathed a sigh of relief: it looked like quirky optical boutique City of Angels Eyewear had surreptitiously folded, too; but some online rootin' around reveals that they're shacking up with Dita Legends, just a few blocks down the street.
