It's about time: that stretch of Sunset that's home to a terrific assortment of indie retailers and boutiques is finally getting a hair salon with a distinctively girly touch. That would be Rock Paper Salon, taking over the former Beauty Box space. Rock Paper Salon is just a stone's throw from places like Warwick, E.P.I.C., 826LA/Echo Park Time Travel Mart, and Little Joy.
But a terrific location isn't everything. The trio of stylish stylists are pretty low key about it, but they all have celebrity clients—and most importantly, the skills that keep their clients looking good and coming back. If they look familiar, it's because the three stylists are all veterans of a Tabatha's Salon Takeover. (Don't worry, none of them were written up for anything on the show: at a former salon, the boss was busted for being too much of a party gal).
The salon itself is chock-full of old-school charm. It's clean and airy, but rustic—as opposed to being too sleek or modern. The smallish space is only a three-chair affair, but when we dropped by Wednesday night, all three chairs were full. A very good sign considering the salon just opened on Tuesday. And all three customers were dudes: at Rock Paper Salon, they're equal opportunity beautifiers.
