Wacko Contracts, La Luz de Jesus Expands

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Wacko, that much loved emporium of the arcane, creepy, and wackadoodle, recently went under the knife to make room for a brand new wing of La Luz de Jesus goodness. The expansion comes shortly after the closing of Billy Shire Fine Arts, and it's part of a plan to return the gallery to its genre-launching heyday. The new addition opened on Friday. The staff was still monkeying around with shifting some of the retail elements—don't worry, all the merchandise is still there, some of it's just in different places—but the new gallery hosted Scott Hove's Iced Out. Wow. A pink chandelier made out of fake cake, with teeth. Bacon-maple donuts and assorted cupcakes were served, and an ice cream truck sold sweets out in front. While we're really going to miss the Culver City gallery, we'll be glad to have a revitalized La Luz de Jesus in the neighborhood.
