Last night was a pretty big in-store event at Diane von Furstenberg's Melrose location, featuring a performance from singer-songwriter Mozella, inspirational speeches from notable women, plus munchies, cocktails and fashion.
The celebration of International Women's Day featured talks from two Vital Voices ambassadors, actress Sally Field and Rebecca Lolosoli, who traveled all the way from her home village in Kenya to talk about abuse, female genital mutilation and share her personal experiences. Vital Voices is an organization that strives to empower women around the world, a cause we can definitely get behind.
In addition to the regular clothing and accessories, the store also sold DvF's Proud to Be a Woman CD, which features 12 songs by artists like Estelle, Christina Aguilera, Annie Lennox and Mary J. Blige. The album retails for $16, and proceeds benefit Vital Voices. There's also a matching tote bag that retails for $35, which aside from being cute and artistic, is also made of 100% natural canvas and biodegradable fibers. So it helps women and the environment. We're pretty sure it doesn't get much better than that.
