Zac Posen's (Almost) Mass Appeal: Z Spoke Debuts at Saks

We always feel bad when East Coasters make a special trip out to California, and the weather's crappy, like it was on Saturday when Zac Posen stopped by the Bev Hills Saks Fifth Avenue to debut Z Spoke, his lower-priced line of casuals. Posen, dashingly attired in a blood-red velvet blazer and impotence-inducingly tight black trousers, showed the well-heeled crowd a lot of love: he was charming, gregarious, eager to chat and pose for pictures?and most importantly, justifiably proud of his new line. And what can we say about the collection?J'adore as it was flirty, sexy, cool and versatile. The collection is almost ageless, appealing equally to a crowd of giggly, shy FIDM students and the Ladies Who Lunch bunch. There were super-casual suity looks that gave off the air of a fashion-forward, sexy librarian, and easy-breezy ensembles that beg to be worn on the weekend. For us, there were two standout "must haves": an apple-green dress with red piping and an aggressive zipper ($445), and the coresety Obi belt ($165). Lower-priced, yes, but cheap it ain't: the line starts at $78 for a tee and a few dresses top out at $575. It's a Saks exclusive; we suggest you get a move on to the store as we know they are going to be fast sellers. (Text by Lisa Boosin and Yolanda Evans.)
