Last week, we were driving around and heard a segment on NPR about how macaroons are usurping cupcakes as the "it" dessert. We scoff. For one thing, if this cookie is so popular, why is there no consensus about how to pronounce its name? And they may be tasty, but cupcakes are both sweet AND beautiful.
It was so funny that the very day after hearing this story, we got an invitation to check out the Buttercake Bakery in Sunset Plaza. It seemed like fate was trying to tell us something, so we decided to check it out.
Talk about cute overload: the sunny little cakery was a veritable shrine to the treat. Books on cupcakes, cupcake candles, cupcake coin purses, cupcake bandages?and oh yes, actual cupcakes. And lemon bars, cakes, cookies, brownies, and other mega-caloric yet happiness-inducing delights. So why don't you ease your way over the Wednesday hump by looking at pictures of pretty pastries? Better yet, pick yourself up a treat; in addition to the Sunset Plaza location, there's also a Buttercake Bakery in West LA at 10595 W. Pico Blvd.
