American Rag's Abandoned Treasures Lives Up to the Name

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

One thing's for sure: American Rag don't sell no junk, so we were pretty ecstatic when we learned they opened a popup outlet across the street -- with American Rag shoes and merchandise retailing at 70% off. It's called Abandoned Treasures, and it's around until the end of January.

The takeover is so complete -- it feels deliberately downscale chic, with a grand crystal chandelier and vintage and handmade furniture, much of it for sale -- you can't believe it's just a temporary thing. And when you starts looking around at the merch and the prices, you won't want to believe it will end. Like American Rag, there's a mix of new and vintage, though Abandoned Treasures has much more new retail. When we were there, we found Helmut Lang jackets and leather pants, Haute Hippie dresses and jackets, Halston Heritage gowns (and an outrageous bronze sequined playsuit)?the names go on and on. Most for 70% off of what they retailed for. There are a few $30 racks; we found one stuffed with goods from Ever, Laugh, Cry, Repeat by Anzvino and Florence, James Perse, and even some T by Alexander Wang. There's even a rapidly dwindling stack of Toms for $20. And lots and lots of jeans, including Acne, J Brand, AG, and Current/Elliott.

That's up front; in the back is the dudeswear, vintage, and a superbly fun collection of vintage furs. If you like deep discounts on fun, edgy apparel (and who doesn't?) you'll definitely want to see for yourself. They're open Monday through Saturday, 11am to 7pm, and Sunday from noon to 6pm.
