A Trio of Eastside Treasures Call it a Day

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We can't even pretend to be cheery enough to come up with a snappy lede: In recent weeks, three businesses that had been around so long they were practically part of the landscape have all folded. We learned about Sirens and Sailors late last month, shortly after International Playground opened right down the street. Next to fall was Warwick, the quirky vintage store in a really colorful section on Echo Park on Sunset. Finally, we've got one action item for you: Mercado is folding tomorrow, and they're blowing most of the remaining inventory and fixtures out. When we dropped by on Saturday, there was practically nothing left, but who knows, you might wind up with a sweet deal on a display case. We got two tiny pieces of consolation from our errand: we learned they're continuing to sell online. And we visited the new boutique Grey, which had formerly been shacking up with Pull My Daisy. The boutique is absolutely precious, with the same great jewelry and accessories, smartly priced new clothing, and some really fantastic vintage and consignment. We'll feature them later in the week.
