Found By Offers High-End Vintage Looks Without the High-End Price

The recently-opened West Hollywood boutique Found By is the perfect example of how far smarts, passion, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves can take you in retail: of the trio behind the store, only one of them comes from a proper "fashion" background. That would be Nate Newell. Arianna Schioldager is the clothing-obsessed one with a terrific eye; and Mike McGuiness is a guy who's really good at making things happen. They pooled their skillsets to create a picture-perfect boutique that's tucked into a quaint stretch of Doheny, just around the corner from the Troubadour and MI-6.

Found By offers a deliberate assortment of pristine vintage—some of it in its original condition, a few pieces remade or subtly redesigned. The inventory is mostly wearable, practical, stylish everyday pieces, like flattering little dresses, blouses and skirts. Also thrown in the mix are some jaw-dropping gowns, accessories, and random items that are so cool they will blow your mind. A couple of the items we fell particularly hard for were a Halston-ish black jumpsuit and a pair of black lace/brocade harem pants.

What sets the boutique apart from other upscale vintage purveyors is how reasonably priced everything is. Most of the items go for between $100 and $200—they have more beautiful scarves than you can image for well below $100, and a few of the gowns and furry things run a tad higher.

Even though this total treasure of a store is barely a month old, the trio are already thinking of ways to add to it. They may add higher-end consignment; they could possibly bring in some denim—the brilliant idea being that you may want to try some of the Found By tops with a pair of jeans, and once you see how great the pieces look together, you'll probably buy both. Found By is open Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 6pm; Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 7pm.
