A Whistle-Whetting Peek at What's On Sale at The Way We Wore

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Revered LA vintage house The Way We Wore is having a 50% off sale, so we decided to go down to investigate. All the press we'd seen on the events dropped names like DVF, Halston, YSL and Chanel, so we were halfway expecting to find a well-dressed riot inside the store.

Not so much. Well-dressed, yes. Just a few well-behaved movie/theater types researching and shopping for a production.

And we also found that a lot of the premium covetables (the quilted Chanel bags, the Chanel cap-toed flats, the more recent Prada shoes) were not, in fact, 50% off. The half-off sale is only good on the bottom half of the store—which is packed with so many beautiful dresses and meticulously cared-for clothes that you'd be doing yourself a disservice to just look for the labels. But still, if you've got a case of label lust, we found pieces from Norma Kamali, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, and Halston included in the first floor discount. Also shoes from Stuart Weitman and Ferragamo.

The sale goes through February 7. They're open Monday - Saturday, 11am to 7pm; and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.
