Uniqlo Goes To Paris

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There are no baby steps involved in Uniqlo's first foray into continental Europe. The Japanese brand is jumping straight in with a high-tech, 23,000-square-foot flagship facing the Paris Opera House. The store's exterior was left intact, but the interior was gutted and a glass roof was installed along with rotating mannequins in glass cases. Also set to debut on Thursday with the flagship is Jil Sander's minimalist collection for Uniqlo. The line is so minimalist the designer's name isn't anywhere on it. The clothes just say "+J." [WWD]
